In November '04, Paul Dean, VP and Editorial Director of Cycle World Magazine, contacted Steeds to put the Cobra bike on tour. The 24th Annual Cycle World International Motorcycle Shows will be hitting all corners of the US from November 2004 through February 2005. The Steed Cobra was inducted into the Motorcycle Industry Hall of Fame in 2000, in the "Most Famous Custom" division. Now is your chance to see it in person.
The Cobra bike, designed in 1995 and built by John Covington with the assistance of his very talented crew, first hit the show circuit in 1997. Steeds built this bike as a "Concept Motorcycle" in the same vein as Automakers make Concept Cars to push the boundaries of motorcycle design. Many of the features found on the Cobra, such as innovative performance suspension techniques, chassis design, alternative oil bag placement, three riser handlebars, and innovative fat tires (this was the first 200 series motorcycle) have worked their way directly into the current Steed production 300 series models.
Steeds built the Cobra bike for Ed Marklow, who still owns it. Ed was kind enough to lend the bike from his private collection of vehicles so the public attending the Cycle World tour could enjoy it again this year.
